Anyone heard anything about potential locations of wind farms in our vicinity ? www.leinsterleader.ie/news/business/no-kildare-sites-yet-for-wind-energy-project-1-4135181The road works being done close to the M8/M7 split over the last few months could be preparatory work for the cables required to transport the electricity away from here. Hope to god we dont get anything dropped on our lap. Coillte are working with these people in hunting for appropriate sites.

Are you for it or against it darchangel ?? Plan is to build 40 windfarms across Kildare, Laois, Offaly, Meath and Tipp. Thats 8 each per county. The Bog of Allen is flagged a likely candidate for turbine hosting which is v close to home. The turbines will be the same ones used out at sea because they generate the most power per rotation - they are really huge propellers and make a shed load of noise when running at full tilt. We wont see any of the electricity as its heading over across the water to the UK. They are being located on this island because of planning permission and environmental objections in the UK. Ill wait and see what happens before making a judgement.

For me the above says it all. If the wind mills are not acceptable to our neighbours across the water, then why should we be ask to put up with it, to supply the UK with electrical energy.
They want to retain their landscapes and not impact on their environment, but we are expected to erode ours to supply them with electricity. Well I say get lost.

Pat Rabbitte says we are getting them because they'll provide jobs with no care for the landscape or noise pollution.

if this plan goes ahead, our country is utterly fucxxd, i mean allowing another country to build wind farms in our country, regardless of bringing work into out country. it's goin to feck up our environment while the other countrys, environment stays natural looking. i, for one am against it. but it's not up to me is it.

Somehow they think that tourism won't be affected by erecting wind turbines in the midlands. The bog people in the midlands will never notice and sure who lives there anyway? There are EU directives to preserve wetlands and bogs but doesn't count when big money is being invested. The work will go to Irish companies ok, MRP & BNM, but the electricity will go to the UK.

..yeah saw the Rabbitte interview,he don't care, just another FNF,with a large pension on the horizon.......it's deja vu really...give the Paddies a few bob sure they'll be grand.....just like Arthur McBride and the cousin when they encountered Sgt Napper, the recruiting officer...
..."ah now me fine fellows if you will enlist, it's ten guineas in gold I will stick in your fist, and a crown in the bargain for to kick up the dust, to drink the king's health in the morning"
....same shite........different century........
...ps Ballyboy...are you for or against...?...

Oh I'm for it rightsoted for environmental and economic reasons. good answer--i mean why put those massive fan's up in their country and disfigure it. do it in another country. get your head outta your hole and think about it. which remind's me, i am goin to open a silage pit but will do it in your neighbourhood, ballyboy. it will bring work to the area. thanks

Poor response !! if you came back with a reasonable answer I would be prepared to debate it with you and if you were good enough you might sway me. There is plenty of silage pits around where I live, they rarely cause a problem, biggest polluter has always been the local authorities and their sewage plants but then I suppose you think your sh-t doesn't stink and goes into the magic hole in the back yard, as for your blame the brits argument, how narrow minded, you do realise the have a nuclear power plant or has that little bit of news not penetrate into the little box you live in. The proposal is to place these turbines across the midlands, I am aware of several proposed sites and have been watching with interest the outcome of the numerous local public meetings that have been held already with the landowners who by the way are the ones who will be living closest to these turbines, they don't see a problem. If these proposals come to pass and it benefits this county and creates jobs I am all for it, too many of our children have to leave this country to find work, if this helps keep them at home or bring them home then it can't begin soon enough.
PS I'm not a farmer by the way, but I do work in construction and maybe just maybe I'll get a start on one of sites and in turn be able to employ a few locals

The landowners will make a killing ok and jobs will be created for a short term. The landowners will be able to afford to move out and buy away from the turbines and leave those on small plots of land behind. Oh I'm for it rightsoted for environmental and economic reasons. What does "I'm for it for environmental.....reasons" mean? There are Irish companies who specialise in the construction work involved in erecting wind turbines which includes access roads and foundations. The construction work will go out to tender and no guarantees any work will go locally or even to Irish companies.
