Semi-related I guess but the new coffee shop in the village makes really, really nice coffee. As I am heading to and fro I would like to stop and grab one. There are two problems with this, firstly the shop is open 9-5. Like many others in the village I work in Dublin at that time, so more often than not it is closed. Businesses need to think about this - if it was open for rush hours I think that people would use it more. I've suggested this to the guys working there so you never know they may take this on board. I really hope that they do. The second problem is of more concern. Today I was at home for the morning and I popped into the village. There was not one single parking spot in the main street, at haven hire or anywhere. The only spots free were the disabled ones, which were all free. Furthermore, the parking warden was running round lashing out tickets to cars in the other spots. So once again, I was in the village with money to spend I ended up in Liffey Valley at Starbucks spending it there. I know I could have parked at the Abbey or behind the Duck, but it would cost a euro and I really needed to grab one and go, not stop, fill the meter, walk down and back. Any impediment and, just as I did, people will say - ah stuff this, I'm off somewhere that it's easier to do business. Point being, unless the shops open when the people are there and there is free and easy access, the amount of trade that the village is losing has to be huge. Unfortunately in the long run I fear that many more businesses will suffer the same fate and we will end up with a main street full of fast food joints. I understand that the structure of the village doesn't help here (and that's part of it's charm) but the management of the parking facilities that we have is sub-par.

I do agree Pablo.. I'm surprised it opens at 9.. usually they open at 10am.. have you tried the Castletown Inn carpark, that's only 20 cent for 15 minutes, like the main street.. but, I don't know if it opens really early.

I have noticed the issue regarding parking in the Main St in the past, and have been adversely affected by it also.
Unfortunately Pablo your posting conveys to me the message that you will go to any lengths to get you coffee where you don’t have to pay for parking. The return trip to Liffey Valley is surely a bit extreme for a cup of coffee – especially one from Starbucks.
Shopping local is not always easy, but it does have some benefits like local employment and an increased likelyhood of money going around our village. I commend your efforts to spend locally, and giving feedback to the businesses.

If you need the coffee that badly, there's always insomnia at Barnhall shops. Free parking too..

You could go to the Halo at Tesco and park there for free. The other Abbey car park on the Clane Rd also does 15 mins for 20 Cent. Remember paid parking is between 10am and 4pm.

Pablo, I understand what you are saying. But I think that all of us who care about our town just have to make the effort to support local shops.
The time you took to drive to Liffey Valley and the money you spent on petrol and the fumes you excreted could have been avoided if you were willing to stretch your legs and do the walk from the Mucky Duck.
Along with getting a little exercise you would be helping local business and keeping our town alive. At the end of the day it is up to each one of us to make the correct choice. The Liffey Valley route in my opinion was not the correct one.

I think I'm missing something here, a coffee shop that opens at 9am? Why not open a bar next door and have it close at nights and weekends? A coffee shop's most lucrative time is as people are passing by on their way to and from work/school etc Without meaning to be facetious, are the owners running it as a business, or merely for something to do?

Im going to the new sweet shop shortly and then new coffee shop,..I will also suggest to coffee shop about opening earlier as im off all summer and Id like to be able to go down around 8 for a coffee after I do the bus stop drop off and then walk around our beautiful castletown house demesne. if they opened from 7:30 imagine how many people would go in for the take away coffee for the commute! maybe people arent committed enough to open that early though. also I really feel if its possible the likes of coffee shops and the sweetshop should stay open on sundays,..we always potter down to the village and then walk in castletown and its a pity to always have to go into one of the pubs for tea or coffee.

Yep, you're missing the point that this is Celbridge we're talking about, not New feckin' York... It should really be open from 7am cos most people are heading to work at that time.

Ah Local, don't tell me Celbridge no longer reign as kings of coolness in Kildare? If the title's gone to the likes of Timahoe or Sallins, then I'm migrating to the lads on the Monasterevin section of the board;)

New shop will be open beside butchers on Main Street in Celbridge. Looks like some computer / mobile phone repair centre. I wish them good luck.
