I think you seem to be of the opinion that you are the only one who has to work to make ends meet... Well my ends have met and passed each other.. I do understand that people have to go to work, but you don't spend 7 days a week, every week of the year working in Dublin.. On a saturday morning the amount of cars leaving Celbridge for other towns is frightening.. most likely the Liffey Valley or the city.. I know you can't buy a pair of shoes or a pair of jeans here, but at one time you could.. and I did.. there were some marvellous boutiques in the town, Leixlip had a great shoe shop, we even had a gorgeous Lingerie shop at one time....all gone now, because not enough people spend here... just a little helps... We have a shop, it's a speciality shop so it's not a busy shop, only I don't get a wage any more we'd be a closed shop.. Please forget the lecture, all I'm saying that I will shop where the best value is, if that is local that's fine. When your disposable income is down 20%, you will go where the bargains are to be had. Lucky for you that can you can work locally. No, I don't work on a Sunday, but then card shops/ speciality shops are closed. ! By the way I do shop (supermarket) locally - Aldi because they stock many Irish products.

Joe only one thing for it....I will need to do some market reasearch, so a little pub crawl on a Friday night to see whats happening. Would love to find one like "wrights". It was lovely to walk into a pub with a buzz reminded me of the good old days.
Bet I wont find one that serves me with an "ice bucket"!!!
Also noticed a sign there advertising "Tranny Bingo" with "Annie Balls" on a Monday night.
Definately a business that is "thinking outside the box" and its working for them.

I was in Green's on Sat. night and it was very busy, went to 'The Speakers' after - again busy enough, but there was a clear out @11pm. People just don't have the money.

Michelangelos restuarant seems to be busy most evenings and very busy most Sundays. The pubs have their moments and do respond to good music on occasion. Wine with ice bucket in one of the pubs might be pushing it ok but you could always ask.

I am defo going to do a crawl on a Friday, I actually cannot remember the last time I was out in a pub in Celbridge. I actually haven't even heard of Greens (where is it.). P.S I haven't been in pubs anywhere so its not that I'm taking my business elsewhere.
I went to Michael Angeloes only once on a Sunday for Lunch last year. And I'm sorry to say it was the worst meal I ever had. The roast beef seemed to have been microwaved to heat it up. The Gravy was actuly stuck to my plate. My Belgian brother in law who is a chef had to send back his fish because it was gone off. Even the kids meals were awful.
Apart from the food I thought the decor of the Restaurant was very bland. White chip wallpaper and no pictures on the wall etc very dated.

Green's is above the Castletown Inn, they do an Early Bird menue, €5 starter/desserts, €10 main course. I recommend the sea trout, very reasonable and friendly staff.

Greens have increased the deal price to €5.50 and €10.50
The decor in Michelangelos could do with a Francis and John style upgrade ok. I find in most places that the quality of beef and lamb can vary from day to day and it can be a bit of a lottery when ordering. Michelangelos has many regulars going back over a good few years and have probably all had a bad experience at sometime or other. I know a couple who go to a restaurant in Maynooth for a number of years now, I asked them what dishes they'd recommend there. They said they always have the same two dishes because they like them and didn't want to risk a disappointment. I thought it was funny but then it's probably how people get comfortable with a particular restaurant. Every restaurant could have items on the menu that say "you don't want to eat this" and regulars instinctively know to avoid them.

I know what your saying Joe, but to much wrong that day to risk going back when there are so many other places to eat around. I have to say there are some great restaurants in Maynooth. The Avenue is very good and reasonable.

Is the shop opposite Aghards school closed again? I did see the shelving being moved out into a truck early last Sunday. I have also been told it is closed.

Is the little fruit and veg shop beside Conways closed too? It was "To Let" last September and I don't think it's been occupied since.
