finchy not having a go at you personally at all, but talk to the other members of the committee, tell them there is some interest on here, if they sit on it, nothing will happen. Communicate with the people of the town, you will soon find out if there is support or not and to what extent. If you don't ask you will never find out. There are a few people on here saying that they'd be interested, that would have to be multiplied by dozens to get this project going. I still think the time is right to ask the hard questions.
Ballyboy, the Ballykelly project was fairly different than the CYMS. GAA clubs are famous for hard working committed committees and to be fair, BK had a good start with the sale of their original grounds. That is not at all to minimise an amazing project with such brilliant facilities. It is an absolute credit to all involved.
The CY committee may be concerned to get involved in major investment, don't forget they started in the red. They may not have the confidence to get into a major project. It would need an awful lot of support to get it going.

ros, I know the two project are not the same, the point I was making is that from our experience and my own personal experience it can be done considerably cheaper than any professional estimate. It will take a leap of faith to get it started and some very committed people to lead it

Wouldnt it be great to have it up an running, imagine getting the bingo back in there...I remember loads of buses pulling up for the bingo....there are many organisations in town who could use it for meeting rooms, maybe the schools could use it as well during the day for things, might be worth trying to get a permit and get a good draw going as a start to help raise funds

Hello folks. It’s fantastic to see the youth club being at the centre of some lively debate! The club was set up three years ago by a number of dedicated and concerned adults who saw the dire need for a facility for our young people. This in my opinion is the most commendable act of generosity that can be offered by anyone. The young people of our town deserve a place to hang out and interact with their peers and not have to rely on street corners to occupy their minds after school. I would like to clarify some inaccurate points made. It is true that we have been forced to look for other accommodation but we DON’T look to move on when something bigger or better comes along. The club is at the mercy of whoever provides the accommodation and everything was considered when we set it up (accommodation being the most important aspect). The Parish Office was very generous to provide its premises to us for the length of time that they did. Circumstances changed and we were faced with a big dilemma. At this stage we were rescued and very kindly offered the old Ballykelly Clubhouse which we thought was the answer to our dreams. Alas, again circumstances changed and it is no longer a viable long term option. In saying this Ballykelly is a fantastic interim facility to have and our young members absolutely love it. We have held two very successful meetings here already and our members are keen to put their stamp on it. It is with the current facility and with the help of St Pauls that we are still providing a service of sorts for our Young People. If we were to give up every time an obstacle was put in our way the town would never have a club. It is the dedication and commitment of the current committee that keeps the club open against some very difficult situations. The people of this town, both resident and business have been phenomenally supportive of the club since its inception and we want this to continue. We are extremely grateful and delighted that the CWMS committee are considering us as tenants and we will work as hard as any organisation to help make this happen. We hope and pray that Ballykelly will still be available until the CWMS becomes available. It was the Youth Club who stood up to the plate when the CWMS committee looked for help to clean up the building and get it into some sort of presentable shape. This is a small sign of our commitment to provide a permanent facility for our young members who will in time take over the show. It is not good planning to just look at tomorrow in terms of suitable premises; we are looking long term at a solution. The hard working, dedicated Youth Club Committee is 110% behind the CWMS Committee and any other interested party in helping to raise funds for this cause, anything we can do big or small is not an issue and we hope to see the day when this fantastic building is reopened – not just for the Youth but for everyone. NO matter where we are or under whatever roof we will be, we will continue to provide this vital service for our young people which is needed more now than ever!!!!!!!!!!!! And any help we can get to achieve this is always welcome.

Thanks for that rightsoted. That is exactly what we propose to do. With the aid of our PRO we have been on KFM in the recent past and the local newspapers have covered some of our projects to date.
I agree that it is the perfect time to raise our profile particularly with the inevitable election thats coming around the corner. Onwards and upwards!!!

agree with you 100% rightsoted, and glad to hear paddyb say that is what they intend to do, avail of every outlet to inform the locality of what is going on as then people will know the facts instead of drawing their own conclusions, and I include myself in that, best of luck for the future and as you say yourself paddyb, Onwards and upwards;

Thanks for the comments Finchy and Flower. There are a lot of young people in this town depending on us all. I hope we can all work together successfully to get this project up and running. The youth deserve it and the town needs it.
