I think it would be great to see the CWMS in use again, there is enough derelict buildings in the town at present and we as a community should strive to see it open and back in use because we own it. It will cost money and there will have to be a lot of local fundraising to do this, getting people to put their hands in their pockets will rekindle a degree local interest, after all if you exclude the local sports clubs and schools what does the community do for the teenage youth of the town, all other age groups are catered for. The amenity project looks like it will not happen for a long time if ever so lets make the best use of what we have. It makes more sense to put locally raised funds into the CWMS because we own it than lets say the old Ballykelly site as that and other sites mentioned are privately owned and can be taken back at anytime. It is a terrible shame that the CY was let go so far but that was our own fault, we were all to busy chasing the Celtic tiger instead of the things that really mattered, looking after our local communities and I include myself in that last statement

finchy, I agree as I always have that we need money to get the hall ready for the youth club but what I am saying that it is not impossible, also you know that the Youth Club would have to agree to take the hall for an agreed amount of time and going by what premises are available in the town I don't think anything better would come along in the next number of years. Power of positive thinking is what is needed

It can be done, but only if there is communication, tell the people of the town whats going on, how much it will cost, and for what. There are obviously bits that could be tackled to begin with, other bits that might need to be left on the long finger. How many unemployed builders are there out there. Can you get a CE scheme in there, there must be options. The climate is right now, for getting people to help. Ballyboy is right, football and sports are generally well catered for, we need somthing like the CY for general stuff, Youth club etc.
Get the information out there.... good and bad....

Hi all and a happy new year! Many thanks to Flower for starting this thread! We need this facility in the town and as ROS said give us the info good or bad and the community needs to get behind this ambitious project. And ROS is right.. a small part can be ready.. it doesnt have to be the complete project . Creep before you walk !

Let the community know and they WILL come to your aid, there is a lot of people at a loose end at the moment and I would bet there is a few of them who would to get involved in a project like this, you just have to remember to involve them.

how much will it cost, give us the good and bad info, it can be done if there is communication, why are ye all asking me this, I'm not the P.R.O. and if I was to tell ye that it will cost about 50,000 to open a section, and 150,000 to 200,000 to open the entire hall there would be loads of reply's accusing me of been off me rocker or even worse of being negative, so I'm keeping me mouth shut and telling ye nothing so I'm not,

Having been involved in the Ballykelly development the figures you mention would not scare me, the first estimate we got was double the actual final cost. There is no doubt it will cost a considerable sum but it can be done if the will is there
