This is my last post as mcfpro. jC, options were there for people to volunteer for the committee from day 1, any one could have volunteered, no one was refused, in fact it was the biggest committee I have ever been on. As with other committees in the town, some of the usual suspects went forward, the same people who are willing to give some of their free time to committees. There were some new faces as well, which was great. Competing interests are a good thing, we need the best solution. There were frequent meetings to begin with and then the summer holidays came along, it was at this stage that I missed a couple of meetings due to other commitments, that is the reason I resigned, I cant give the required commitment.
I do very much agree with your last point, and it is something I pointed out in my resignation, that it is important to keep people informed of what is happening, good and bad. JC, there is a vacancy there now, maybe you could volunteer for the job as PRO, I am sure that they would be delighted with your help.

Hey sal, I am only living in Monasterevin 4 years and am not part of any groups so I felt abit unsure as to whether it made sense to be involved. The meeting did discuss having someone represent the large number of new inhabitants of Monasterevin but I beleive the woman who resigned was also new to Monasterevin.
I also work in Dublin so hard to have alot of time to get involved (couldn't gaurntee I'd make meetings in the evenings due to working late). I had however hoped that the communication (again mentioned as very important at the meeting) would be alot better and that I could keep in touch with the progress and if an opportunity arose later to give some input I would be interested in that.
Are you involved sal?
It seems clear to me that this project is abit of a mess now. A group of people have worked very hard and progressed the idea of a community centre quiet far and then the idea of receiving some funding from County council has distracted everyone as they look to jump through their hoops with no gaurnteed outcome. The momentum has been lost again, maybe another community meeting is needed to discuss where the town is now in terms of getting this project over the line in a sustainable way.
I would love for someone from the current committee to come on here and tell me I'm wrong and that the project is progressing well: 1) A location has been decided on 2) Funding from county council is probable 3) Original group are fully on board in terms of combining funds

Sal,
Thanks for the response. Best of luck with project. Could I ask you to ask the Committe (or new pro) if they would post the minutes of the meeting on this website to keep the community up to date?

..hey jc.....minutes are for those who put in the work and attend committee meetings, not for general consumption....certainly not on internet forums (or should that be fora?)............but i'm sure the new PRO will keep us informed of any new developements....

rightsoted, we're not talking about a private company here - it's a public committee of community representatives. They are supposed to representative the people of Monasterevin and it was clearly discussed at the opening meeting that communication with the community was essential. In fairness to mcfpro, there were attempts at the start to keep us updated by that fell away quite quickly. I have asked numerous times over the last two months for an update and worryingly nobody can give me one. As I mentioned earlier - maybe a second community meeting is now needed to bring everyone back up to speed and refocus the minds again.
Capricorn & rightsoted - maybe you know more than me but can you say that after such a successful opening meeting that things have gone well so far - are you disappointed with the lack of information and communication?

..jc,you've misunderstood my post......minutes of meetings are exactly that,a blow by blow account of what goes on,who attended, who was excused, review of previous meeting, ideas, proposals, who said what and to whom, etc etc etc,so it wouldnt be practical to post all of that here or anywhere else for that matter............generally then the PRO issues a condensed press release to the local press, parish newsletter, local radio or internet forum.........

I'm obvioulsy not talking about putting up a 10 page document here, simply the summarised version. I thought that would be understood.
Sal - who is the PRO now? When is the next meeting?

JC don't overestimate the amount of people on here. It may be that the new PRO isn't even aware of this forum. Very few people contribute on here, quite a lot more have a look but don't contribute. The new PRO may find other ways of communicating with the people in the town. I do agree with you that if the committee want good support, it would be in their interest to inform people regularly of what is happening, good or bad. This needs to succeed.

..good point Ros,but i wonder what's the best way of communicating with the local community ??.....people in general don't seem to want to attend meetings..?? even sometimes when their own children are involved...but maybe a major leaflet drop to every student in every school in the parish for a start.........a press release to the local papers...........and a call to K F M and chat with the bould Clem.........?

Monasterevin Community Facilities Committee would like to extend sincere gratitude to all who donated so generously towards their recent collection in Super Valu. The total amount raised was €1,350.65 and will be put towards funding a feasibility study to identify a suitable community facility for the town. The committee would also like to thank Super Valu for accommodating the collection.
