Following up on matters arising from the public meeting hosted by County Kildare Leader Partnership and Kildare County Council, the M.R.C.C would like to inform the public that after nine years of work there is full planning permission in place for a facility on Togher Road in Monasterevin. ; MRCC its great to get a summary of all the work done to date, and that people who may not have seen the plans, to get an opportunity to see them in shop in the square. That way they should appreciate all the work done to date. Where does the existing work done to date fit in with the meeting last week and the committee being put together as a result of that meeting.

mrcc,
Thanks for the update and I comend you on some fantastic work and really really hope you can see this through as quickly as possible now. Just a few quick question - a number 0f €2m was being spoken about to build the center - when was this quote received? Do you think you could do it cheaper now? Could you see the project some how being split now into sport and non-sport? Is there any way you can get started for less money and then build it up over time?

ros, every topic discussed at last weeks meeting and every channel has been exhausted right to the end over the past nine years but we'll look forward to the meeting on the 31st.
jc, the planning permission received covers everything from sport to every activity and to suit the needs of everybody in Monasterevin and surrounding areas. And yes this project can be built on a phase basis and Monasterevin is well overdue a couple of million euros from building levies and again looking forward to the meeting on the 31st.

Annoyed I missed this meeting. As convener of the Monasterevin Rail Users Group, it was a must.
Ive a few things to say regarding the use of the site on Togher Road to build a community centre.
As residents of Togher Wood whose gardens back directly onto the football pitch and the plot of land between there and train line, we have all kept a very close eye on the two contending bids for use of this large site since 2002/2003 :
[1] MRCC for the community centre [2] KCC for _lots_ of council houses.
We heard the football club was moving to the Old Bally Kelly GAA space but that never happened. Then someone put drainage into the area currently containing the horses but that got dug up again. It was hard to keep track of who was doing what.
The planning signs changed so often between the two bids we eventually lost track and interest. In the end, we assumed the entire process had run into the ground with the economic climate.
We blocked one house building proposal by KCC or at least got the builders to reduce the proposed two storey house building directly abutting the back gardens to a less intrusive single storey.
While there may be 85% support for a Recreation Centre on the Togher Road site, the sensitivities of those living around that space will have to be catered for as well. The perimeter wall of the football pitch is shared directly with the houses - we often have members of the football club over the wall looking for lost balls ("Ill give you lost balls...." ) so in the rush to push up a much needed facility, there will be other smaller voices, equally vigilant and long lived as the MRCC committee members, to consider in this process.
Id like to emphasise the community aspect of any development proposal given the property boom with all its attendant insanities we have just lived through.
Regards,
Steve

Steve, we can only reply to the second last paragraph because anything else mentioned is out of our remit. The recreation facility itself has planning permission which has taken into consideration the sensitivities of those living around that space as a whole. With the planning permission granted as it is it takes all of these concerns you have mentioned away from your estate. This was a priority of ours at the time of going to planning stages that everybody in the surrounding area would have the least disruption caused to their daily activities.
None of the new sporting facilities will back onto any of your housing estate and these plans will be on display in the near future.
Regards.

Hi MrCC
I appreciate the limits of your remit and the existence of full planning permission (which is great !). As far as we can remember - as it has been a _long_ time coming - people living on the street were never consulted about the plans for the Centre. We did see plans in Supervalu and planning permission applications on the KCC site. What we saw never worried us partly because the likelihood of liftoff seemed remote which was disappointing in itself as we all want facilities for the town.
If it does come to reality, we will take a closer look like everyone else. Looking at the current plans up on the KCC site, theres no impact to the existing football pitch so I see no reason for us to worry.
Roll on the Recreation Centre !
Thanks for the feedback
Steve

MRCC apologises to the Public for the delay in displaying the full plans for the new community facility at Togher Road in Monasterevin, as posted on the forum earlier.
This viewing was originally planned to be displayed in the old General Stores window at the square in Monasterevin as previously used in the earlier planning stages.
As we were not allowed access to one of the General Stores windows this time round due to the Venice of Ireland committee requiring use of both windows, we approached Joe Flynn on Main Street who without hesitation accomadated us and to whom we are very grateful. This premises was previously occupied by the Royal Oak auctioneers and is situated beside Mooney's Pub.

..hey lads,i'm stuck in a Y H somewhere between Munich and Skopje, on the way to the match ,just chekin' in on whats happening at home.........so whats the big deal about not gettin' a window in the old General Stores ?? i mean there must be half a dozen windows vacant between the Stores and Mooneys ?........i've always been supportive of both the MRCC and the V of I,but perhaps the entrance to Super Valu might be a better venue to display the plans....as probably 90% of the population of Monasterevin and surrounding district pass through those doors...........

Can I introduce myself, my name is Stephen O Rourke and I have been appointed PRO for the new Monasterevin Community Facility Committee. I will be keeping people informed about what is happening with this group as we try to create a community facility for the people of Monasterevin. I will try to answer your questions as quickly and accurately as possible. I am only the PRO and may have to consult with the committee or officers on the committee before answering some questions.
Progress to date; there was a public meeting held in St. Pauls about a month ago and over 60 people attended. A wide variety of interests were represented at that public meeting and a huge amount of enthusiasm and positivity was evident. There were nominations for the committee at that event and also in the meantime, expression of interest were sought and received with the result that we have over 20 people who are willing to serve on the committee. A committee meeting was held this week and some officers were elected, Chair; Mary Keegan, Secretary; Marcy Lee Gorman. It was decided not to elect all officers at this first meeting.
This process is being facilitated by Kildare Rural Development group and members of this group have attended the two meetings to date. They will continue to support this group into the future by facilitation and also through training. There is another very important reason why they are involved in that they also have access to significant funding for this project, up to almost €500,000 for a project of this kind. There will have to be a lot of work done locally before accessing this funding.
The first couple of steps in this process for the group; To go and look at existing Community Facilities, to learn from their experiences To commission an independent Feasabilty study to establish the viability and necessity of such a project.
That's all for now, but please check in again for updates.

Thanks for the update mcfpro, hopefully you will keep us updated after each meeting. So it appears the first hoop has been jumped through in terms of setting up the structure that was recommended the second now appears to be this feasability study. Can you provide any more detail in relation to this - who wll do it - how does it work and how much does it cost? Appears to me that this should be fast tracked now to get the project moving.
