If you are in hospital and you are entitled to a private room in a public hospital because of your VHI cover and don't get it, because, lets face it, there are only a few private rooms and they are usually set aside for someone who is dying or at least really really ill. Well, VHI pays for you being in a private room even tho you are in semi private or public.. Now, that's wrong. I've had this out with them a number of times.

localy... that's why our insurance premiums keep going up.... I don't know why the insurance companies don't put their foot down. I too have rang them about this issue....!!!

I would have thought that it should be illegal to be charged for some service that you did not receive. If you went to a hotel and booked the Honeymoon suite but only a single room was available, you would not pay for the Honeymoon suite would you? Nor would you be expected to pay for it. Same principle really isn't it?

I thought medical insurance competition would see an end to blatent overclaiming by hospitals off the insurance companies but it hasn't happened. If there was just the VHI you could explain it all off by saying there's a bit of a cosy arrangement going on and the customers get screwed, but now you also have the Quinn group and things haven't changed. Has Sean Quinn been sucked in also?

Dentists are no better when it comes to charges. €90 to have your teeth cleaned, how bloody outrageous is that?

I had my son in Wales, on the NHS. I was in a GP unit within the hospital, it was run by the GPs and their midwives. I had a private room and my own bathroom. My son was born in that room, and I was in for 10 days because I got conjunctivitis in both eyes and couldn't see a bloody thing and they wanted to mind me!! The food was lovely and the care second to none. the cost? free.

Irish.. But he had to have a naturalisation certificate because we are Irish and he is growing up here. Even tho' I was born in England I didn't need a cert like that. And by the way, the Welsh would not have an english passport it would be a Welsh one!!!!
