Following the fatal accident last Wednesday KCC have suspended all outdoor work due to Health & Safety enquiry.
No litter bins being emptied, no street cleaning, no road or water repairs etc.

The poor bloke was on point duty at a stop/go set up. Absolutely shocking occurance. It makes me so angry when folks are killed while at work. It's almost always so avoidable.

When you work where you are vulnerable from members of the public, it's not always avoidable. Unfortunately. A tragic accident.

I speak from a Construction Safety point of view and I'm not going to comment of this tragic accident, however the road works on the Maynooth Road (Crodaun) last year were an 'accident waiting to happen', there appeared to be no safety plan at all : there were many activities going on at the same time: pedestrians crossing the road, deliveries of road construction materials, passing traffic and road construction.

I have done it before when I've witnessed dangerous situations due to road works, that is to ring the KCC Maynooth Area Office at 01-6286236 and they usually send someone around fairly quickly.

Yep, Joe I've done that in the past, one particular incident still brings 'the horrors' to me: I was driving past the Boy's School one morning (it's a number of years ago) as the children were arriving to school, there were road works in progress opposite the school at the time, when a young lad about 8, starts to cross the road from behind a truck taking away spoil, if it had reversed 'he was gone'. Well, by lunchtime after my phone call to the council, there was some sort of safety procedure about the works.

They were supposed to start back Wednesday afternoon but no evidence in Celbridge yet. Tidy Towns have been busy picking up rubbish falling out of bins and people's hands as well as litter being pulled from bins by crows.
