I created a programme lately in the town and the printer remarked that its nearly 50/50 with the businesses in town regarding the spelling for the advertising.

In the 1901/11 census it is spelled with an 'a' We can now agree the old fashioned way is with an 'a' the modern up to date, cool way to spell it, is with an 'i'

and its an a for me, the earliest printed record i could find is from e, hogans ' a description of ireland: from 1583, this spelling continues right up to today Monasterevan, the earliest spelling of monasterevin with an I that i can find is from Slaters trade directory of 1846, but and its rare its also spelt with an E in the same book. so you decide, Monasterevan Monasterevin Monastereven

from what i can gather from council record's and some of the elder parishiner's. monasterevan was spelt with an 'a', until st evins park was opened, and shortly after then the 'a' was changed to 'i'.
