Does anyone remember Paul Cullen's Shop on the corner opposite the CYMS. He used to sell fishing and shooting gear, but on the other side he had a kind of grocery / sweet shoop. He had these counters that had glass tops and fronts and it was always interesting to look in to these displays and see all the interesting stuff he had for sale. I used to go to the CYMS some times and people would go across to Cullens to get a bottle of coke or a packet of sweets. A special treat for me was to get a bottle of coke and a cream bun. There was always interesting people in there and very interesting conversations going on, well they seemed that way to my young impressionable mind....

I do remember it well. There were many local shops that are now memories fading into the mist. Mrs Kingstons little shop was great for the sweets that you couldnt get anywhere else. Dinny Byrnes, Mrs Blanc, Storys, Lawlors - all gone, what a shame.

on these cold nights it brings back memories of my dear ould nanny. when i used to stay in her house on nights like this, she would take the shelf out of the range, wrap it in a towel and place it in the spare bed to warm it for me. lot warmer then the modern electric blanket.

im not into sports in a big way, but heres a memory. it was the late 70s, i was at a match with me da . every time that monasterevan kicked the ball over the oppositions post their goalie would shake the post furiously. when asked why he was doing it he replied that he hoped the ball either hit or went wide.lately i tried to shake the post in the same way. he must have been one strong man. i couldn not get it to move at all. anyone know who the team were.
