kay the news I heard from someone who works there is similar. Moore Abbey is actually bigger than whats in Monasterevin, something like 700 people all together in Laois Offaly and Meath as well. There is talks of 70 jobs going in total thats about 10%. What I was told was that they have not been given enough money for some of the new services they have opened and thats why the shortfall. They are trying to reduce costs by saving on what they buy and by using their staff better. There will be job losses though.

hi sugarloves, you don't get to see moore abbey driving past, just the entrance gates, but its well worth a quick drive up to the main building as it is just beautiful. It's surrounded by acres of quiet farmland, its just a gorgeous setting. I'm fairly sure you won't be arrested if ur quick!

Correct me if I am wrong but is Moore Abbey the same service as Stewarts Hospital in Palmerstown? I would nearly be 100% certain that it is.

I meant to expand on what I said by "service"! Moore Abbey provide services for children/teenagers/adulsts with an Intellectual disability. They would also have had a school of nursing on site up until it changed from a diploma to a degree course although I am almost certain that RNMH nurses still do placement there. There would be a large number of people employed within this service.

Does anyone know more about the story that was in the leader this week about the local politicans regecting the rezoning of lands in Moore Abbey? Was there somebody or large company looking to get in there? Is the Glanbia site in Moore Abbey? Is this related to the story that a Tesco was looking to open in Monasterevin?

This post is all over the f---ing place. If this was Kildare CC you'd all be reprimanded. Moore Abbey is part of the Sisters of Charity of Jesus and Mary, yes its like Stewards or John O'Gods it provides service to people with Intellectual disability. Moore Abbey itself is one location, the HQ, there is more to MA than the service, there is an order of nuns who live there and own some of the land.
Glanbia is not part of Moore Abbey, seperately owned site completely. It has all the usual Glanbia stuff, creamery, grain store and shop. It is in a large site in the middle of the town (kind of).
Didn't get the Leader last week, don't know about rezoning being turned down.
