This has been in the pipe line since October,i personally saw them laying fibre cable on the first week of January. This upgrade was due to happen in April,according to this map its pushed back to May. www.eircom.net/efibreinfo/map/

Looks like the work has begun in earnest to install a fibre network round the town. Ive seen two new small green junction boxes - one up Cowpasture in to the right and a second across the road from Fitzpatricks. Superfast broadband here we come :-)

Anywhere you see a new green telecoms box around about (14 at last count), if you live within 80 metres radius of such a box, you'll have access to 50-100MB broadband after July 14th if you are an Eircom customer. Other providers will be kept at bay for another while but the dam has definitely burst..
