Hi,
Long time no post and its been very quiet around here. Everyone moved off to Facebook or emigrated ? Belated Happy new year.
Just wanted to point something out to eyes and ears in the town. We live right next to the mansion beside the catholic church, Count John McCormacks old place that has been lying empty for at least 6 months. There are horses grazing on the fields around the house and occasionally someone drops in to feed them etc. There have been other visitors to the house as well - they've driven into Togher Wood on 4 or 5 occasions, parked their cars - sometimes theyve just walked in to the estate - and in they go through a gap in bushes. I dont know who they are but the word has probably got around the place is empty and we're a bit concerned what might happen next. I know for a fact all the lead has been stripped off the roof and yesterday we heard banging coming from the direction of the house. A Laois registered car pulled into Togher Wood around 2pm and a woman got out of the car, went through the bushes and returned 5 minutes later. They might have been connected with the horses but I doubt it as the latter uusually go in through the gate from Drogheda Street. To all intents and purposes, this property has been abandoned so Im not surprised this is happening but its right on our door step and Im wondering what we can do (if anything).
Steve
