I don't know about the security bit either Ravan.I know Im far more of a danger to my own computer than any outside source could be.

I know that, ChewChew. There are lots of people out there who just like to read. I just hope that none of us have posted anything here that may have caused this decision. Oh I'd doubt it Raven. I think the fact that the forun is run FOC that there are other security related issues that might impact it. Other larger run forums would be run and owned differently.

Your usually so good at your spellings. A test is in order.
Maybe Mr. Campbells will change this one little change, as I too find it terribly annoying.

Yeah I changed it so that we won't recieve any spam from bots and the like. Also makes the site less susceptible to attack. Its purely for security reasons. I presume we can't get any spam unless the spammer logs in first so what's wrong with viewing? As for "bots", I think we could take them on with no problem... Do you think KCC might be trying some denial of service attacks?

But guests couldn't send spam. They would have to be logged in, wouldn't they? Has there been a lot of spam? No. Guests could post without registering. Someone here already showed that. Can't remember who or what thread it was in but it was possible. Its not going to kill anyone to register. There are already numerous members registered who have never posted, so at this stage anyone who reads the forum more than likely has an account. If they don't they can just register one. This is very common practice amoungst forums. It won't be changing.

It will cut down on the number of possible new members since some of the members here discovered the forum from web searching on particular topics.

Campbells Is there any way you could make the Forum 'read only' in the non logged in state, ie, remove (disable) the 'New Thread' and 'reply' options - then when a member logs in these options become active ?? maybe the software is not sophisticated enough...but have a look. Sifu
