Just stopped in to see the NEW Hazel hotel - - couldn't find anyone at reception, went into bar and saddened to see no real changes - same old furnishings, wallpaper and red tartan carpet altho new flooring behind the bar. Function room rite inside main door also unchanged except for dribbles of paint remaining on the glass door. When somebody appeared at desk he told me the place is now owned by a local named PAT LAWYOR, when I told him it was supposed to have been bought by Brendan Grace he informed me he also heard Quinn had bought it. Saw menus - bar food prices ok if the food is upto par and not sure about party menu-prices abit high and with spelling mistakes-not sure Id risk it. Man at reception said very little done to place and no changes to the bedrooms. Maybe I just expected too much for the re-opening but to me a welcome upon arrival is very important and nowhere to be had at the new hazel.

They may need a visit from John & Francis but they'd also need a budget for improvements.

Thats true but surely the public areas r far more important than the area behind reception or behind the bar. And the bit of paint splashed around is wasted on the glass doors!!! Also at least 20 cars in car park but only 4 customers inside and me one of them. So lets hope alot of employment going on behind the scences.

Does it matter who bought it or who leased it ? The man has taken a huge gamble opening the hotel. Its warm, clean and the food in the bar is fantastic and reasonably priced. Where do the people of m'evan think the money would come from to totally refurb the place. Employment has been welcomed and I hope to God it is supported up there and keeps going. Stop moaning all the time. The staff are very professional and friendly too. By the way Rome wasnt built in a day !

..well as long as the place is clean and warm and the food and drink are good thats a start,i didn't expect it to be totally refurbished at this point in time, but if it is to succeed it will need a revamp sooner rather than later,i don't think i would not book a party because of a few spelling mistakes on the menu, betterhalf did you spell check your own post..? ...i always thought the reception area looked drab, and thats the first place people see when they arrive....but hopefully it will return to former glory days.....giving us a good venue for functions of all kinds and creating more local employment...

lady - you seem to know abit about the place - why not share? Obviously you dont watch the Brennans show, and dont know too much about the hospitality industry. Wat is with all the cloak and dagger crap - yes we wanna know who owns it and who we're supporting..... As locals I think its nice to know whats going on in the town. It wud b nice of the owner to welcum us in. I believe a bbq and a free fizzy drink mayb even a bouncy castle for an offical grand opening wud do the place good and add some business. and for what that wud cost they wud get it back tenfold from the public. If not in bar business then in interest for weddings /events. staff i saw: A young lady was behind the bar -( previously an older man and ygr man) and a man occasionally at desk that based on his accent was not a local. Also a Mr Henry(i believe billy?) in charge of weddings.

"Bar menu reasonably priced???".........like I said if food shows up on table liked described on menu then that wud b great. Reasonably priced if youre in Dublin city!!! Look at Silken Thomas prices!!!! "Clean? " if they removed that carpet in bar after over a decade the place would look and smell a whole lot cleaner. "Staff friendly? " I couldn't find any staff at reception and then got no welcome and he wasn't even able to answer my questions!!!!

Have to agree with most of thebetterhalfs comments above,we went up for lunch during the week just to have a nose if i am honest, but i think i will stick to the silken. The reason the hotel closed was that it was not been run right by management and not staff i must add.surely if they want it to work they must make improvements but from what i seen it was the same old hazel,it seemed under staffed no one near reception and no one in behind the bar for 10 minutes, tables not cleared, food on the menu not available and over all it reminded me a bit of faulty towers. If the new owner wants this to work he will have to buck up.I don't mind paying for decent food but i wont give a business my custom purely because its LOCAL the service and quality has to be present for any business to work.I wonder if the previous owners are now leasing the hotel form the new owner because from what i seen it looks like it is run in the exact same manner.
