....a lot has been said and written about the Hazel Hotel over the past two weeks, but at the end of the day it will be sadly missed by the local community,i'm sure that all of us on this forum have at some stage enjoyed a day or night of celebration there ...( other than of course some of our Celbridgian friends......but then again they'd be sort of West Dubs anyway ? and wouldn't understand Rural Ways and Country Music... ;D)............. ..but most of us have been there at Christenings,Communions,Confirmations,Weddings and Funerals....21st's 40th's...Debs... etc...etc..... ...All the local Sport's Clubs,Ros Glas,Monasterevin GFC,Monasterevin SoccerClub,Community Games,Ballykelly GFC etc etc have held functions at the Hazel over the years and great nights they were indeed....so where do we go from here ? ..I'm sure the staff will be looked after first, especially ahead of the bloddy C ....G.... ..MCFLY...i see where your comin' from but it's changed from the 80's and the 90's it's not quite as easy to stash away now... there are Orwellian Forces peering out through every little window of that big house on Kildare Street.....

My car broke down a few years back while passing the Hazel Hotel and I pushed it into the car park. Where would you be without the Hazel Hotel?

I suppose I should have mentioned I stopped at the Hazel Hotel sometimes and enjoyed the food, drink and music. The hotel will definitely be missed just like the Setanta Hotel in Celbridge. A hotel in a town is usually about the only place where large functions can be held, they can be held in GAA clubs and the like but hotels are the ideal place. Apart from the loss in local employment there is something about losing the only hotel in a town, it's like a piece of the town has died and all the functions and visitors that usually go with it.

if a hotel is well run... especially if it is the only one in town... it should survive....recession or no recession... they problem with a lot of hotels is that they got greedy and expanded because of tax breaks... and like everything else it caught up with them...
(for the record i am talking about hotels in general and not the Hazel hotel)

so many hotels up for sale... not much hope of selling in this climate... all down to greedy tax brakes....
