Just got back last night from Germany. Had never been before, it is the most lovely country, with such nice and friendly people. We were in Nuremberg and Munich and then up to Frankfurt yesterday for the flight home. Trains run on time, everywhere is clean, everyone speaks english, and even tho I did try to speak a little german, trying to remember from school, they would insist on speaking english, they obviously were horrified at my bad german!! Beautiful buildings, saw the Olympic stadium, food fabulous. I was so sorry to come home to the chaos in this country. Oh yea, no shops open on a Sunday and no lorries allowed on the roads on a sunday, brilliant.

Chewchew
A fjord is a long, narrow bay with steep sides, created in a valley, carved in a glacial period by a glacier moving from the top region of the mountains to the sea. The principal mountainous regions where fjords have formed are in the higher middle latitudes where, during the glacial period, many valley glaciers descended to the then-lower sea level. The fjords develop best in mountain ranges against which the prevailing westerly marine winds are orographically lifted over the mountainous regions, resulting in abundant snowfall to feed the glaciers. Hence coasts having the most pronounced fjords include the west coast of Europe, the west coast of North America from Puget Sound to Alaska, the west coast of New Zealand, and the west coast of South America.

Ahh now Chewchew...give the man a break.... MrA....The Maori were the first to attribute the creation of the fiords to a “titanic mason”, Tute Rakiwhanoa who hued out the steep sided valleys with keen edged adzes (implements). So you see....I do believe you... Sifu

Well those Polynesians were clearly more than just the greatest sailors that the world has ever known. But they did extinguish the glorious Moa bird, and I can never forgive them for that.Anyway, this has little to do with Norway.

LOL that is what it is understood by fjord in most Scandinavian languages, even a shallow lake can be called "fjord" Well done, Mr A! Have to say it was great, particularly the train ride you take from Oslo to Bergen surrounded by snow, felt so quiet and peaceful.. Now back here, at work, and p-ed off too... Well, let's think about the next break and where to go this time Glad Local liked Munchen
