was up in the woods last week for a quick walk had not been up there for a few months, the amount of trees they are cutting down is shocking, some parts are totally clear of any trees at all. Is there any plan for them to stop felling or are they going to clear the whole place.

For anyone interested, there is a huge amount of felling going on at the car park of Moore Abbey Forest. I have been in contact with Coillte about this, and they say it is due to the storms last year and that the trees in this area are "very dangerous". The plan is to replant this area in 2016. I have expressed my concern at the felling, and any notion of rotational felling, and asked for further information on management and biodiversity plans.
Anyone who is interested in adding a voice to this, drop me a message and I will pass the contact details on to you.
Best,
Onion.

I agree with you Onion. It looks as if they're clearing out the wood in order to build something. This time round the silviculture excuse Coillte gave us the last time they strafed the wood doesnt cover it. There are literally no trees left, the undergrowth has been destroyed. I walked through the area with my dog yesterday and it looked like a bomb had gone off. Its horrible and come across as " we dont give a feck what you think, we're taking the wood". I think we need to find out what Coillte are up to given the car park was closed since March and they show up 8 months later with their portable industrial-scale log generator and boom ! I love the wood , its one of Monasterevins attractions and I dont like what Coillte are doing.
There were definitely trees down in that area but theyve levelled bout a full half acre. I heard from someone who lives in Kill that during the severe storms in March, trees from the area were blown out onto the road. Therefore, blah dee blah..
Ive also come across a team out in other parts of the wood cutting up fallen trees so there is a ring of truth to what Coillte have told you. If you PM me the details, Ill get in otuch with them seperately.
