I have been living in Celbridge for almost 8 years and shopping in Tesco has been inevitable.
I always saw the family parking bays as parking for people with children that have there hands full.
Of course since I have had my child I have been able to avail of this convenience parking. Almost every time I have been able to get a space I have noticed someone pulling into one of them or driving out of one without any children. Most of them look socially inept, however some of them just look like chancers.
Can anyone suggest a solution for justifying these selfish thugs?

You see the same thing at SuperValu.
They are what you call "me feiner" type people, they are the first in line for handouts and last to give help, they use the system to their advantage and put themselves first. It's a cultural thing with some people and probably requires something like army training or a zero tolerance enforcement to get them to change.

It's the same with the wheelchair places. I know there are a lot of them, but, they are there for the users of the disabled badge.. On friday, I noticed that every single space was filled and only one of the cars had the blue disabled sticker thing on the dashboard. I saw some very able-bodied people getting into their cars, to be honest they were Nigerians, (possibly) but I wouldn't have challenged them in case they threw the racist card at me. They simply don't care, but they're not the only ones, I've seen perfectly fit Irish people do exactly the same. It's very selfish.

Tesco sometimes put notices on cars parked in disabled spaces that don't display the card. Maybe they don't do it that often but I have witnessed it. It doesn't help that there are too many spaces reserved for disabled and parent/child, some people say there are plenty left for those who actually need them so what's the problem?

I would email Tesco (in Celbridge) and just say that if they don't stop this parking issue, that you will stop shopping there. Yes, it is infurating, no wonder that the vast majority of them are overweight/obese, they don't want to walk very far!!

That annoys me so bloody much, I had the same problem in Supervalu recently , I was looking for parking and loads of cars were parked in the pareent parking, I has words with one person over it. Security should move them on or get them clamped

The shops don't want to lose customers so it has to be done in a friendly manner.

Joe for your information there are only 8 spaces for Parent Parking, how is that too much, some people are just lazy Gits. Why shouldn't disabled/paretns with young children have less parking bays than other people

I think you mean to say why shouldn't they have more parking bays.!!! But, since when did people with children become disabled. There is absolutely nothing stopping someone with a baby or a toddler from walking to the shop from any distance.. Don't know how we all managed before.. That doesn't mean I condone anyone else parking in the spaces though.

What if all disabled spots were deemed part of the public street just for legal reasons then a garda or traffic warden could slap on a fine if they spot a car in a spot with no official disc. It would mean the traffic wardens would have do spot checks at the shopping areas while they are on duty.
The introduction of the parent + child spaces in recent years has probably not helped matters and only adds to the frustration and confusion. As Queenie says "since when did people with children become disabled", I agree with this and the only special spots should be for genuinely disabled people.

That doesn't mean I condone anyone else parking in the spaces though. It is not just a question of having parent and child spaces close to the shop but mainly that they are bigger than standard parking bays to enable parents to get kids in and out of car seats etc without banging other peoples vehicles. They are closer to the shop simply because a parent with a pram and shopping etc cannot easily run to their car if the weather is bad.....happens a fair bit here It is all about revenue and retailers will never take a heavy handed approach to people abusing a parent or disabled space because they are all customers spending money.

This is completely right. I personally am delighted the big mammy wagons park together, less chance of them scratching my car! the OP says he uses the bays since he had one child. Surely the family bays are for multi kids? family bays are a society thing and in my opinion a nonsense, but the abuse of disabled bays is far worse. The offenders should at very least pretend to limp as they go back to their vehicles, for shame
