Would anyone be able to recommend a place near Celbridge for a special afternoon tea? I'd like to take my two grown up daughters while one of them is home from abroad. I heard that Barberstown Castle aren't doing afternoon teas any more. What is Carton House like? Does Lyons do afternoon tea? Any advice appreciated, thanks.

If you want to stay In celbridge, Celbridge Manor Hotel do afternoon tea,(25 for 2 people) they just posted pics today on their facebook page and it looked nice but I havent tried it. Also in Celbridge is The Village At Lyons,...they dont do afternoon tea but they do an AMAZING breakfast stand,..served from 11:30 (opening time) to 3 but iv gotten it much later then that if you just ask so it also makes a lovely lunch stand,..bottom level is 2 smoked salmon open sandwiches and 2 bacon,..2 baked eggs each (so 4 eggs), next tier up is cheeses,...yoghurt, granola and a chutney or compote,..top layer is scones, small pan eu chocolat, small danish and small croissant and tea or coffee,...its about 23 quid for 2 people and I highly recommend it. The K club is excellent for afternoon tea, they will keep the sandwiches etc coming but they will also charge you for them so be careful. Enjoy

The Village @ Lyons Breakfast stand sounds lovely! I contacted them about afternoon tea during the year...I think they only do it a few days a week. Regarding the Celbridge Manor, it was ok. Some of their cakes seemed bought in and a bit artificially sweetened. Perhaps they things have improved since as this was soon after they opened.

I would go with he K Club or Village at Lyons. Village at Lyons is open Friday Sat and Sunday after 11am. If you go in Sat there may be other shops on site open. Beautiful surroundings and you can walk along the canal. K club is also a lovely place.

Personally I love going to Castletown house for afternoon tea.
I think it's €15 for 2 and what's included is pretty good. Small selection of sandwiches, buns, brownie and scones. Then a nice brisk walk around the park to work it off.

Went to Celbridge Manor for afternoon tea yesterday with an elderly aunt. It was awful. The sandwiches were without the dressings they advertised on the menu, the white bread was stale, the bread the smoked salmon was plonked on was as hard as the hob of hell. Just awful. My aunt has alzheimers and doesn't like fusses, so I couldn't make my true feelings felt. I did say the bread was stale and sandwiches were not as stated, when I eventually got the attention of a staff member. But was still charged the €25, despite a large portion of the food going back. We brought home the scones! I wouldn't recommend it in a fit.

You know that's a real shame as Celbridge Manor had great aspirations but has never made the 4 star standard (as had been advertised). I've heard many of my friends say that it's not up to scratch either.

From looking at www.Tripadvisor.com the Celbridge Manor is mostly very good in the B&B area but can be hit and miss with meals after that and the misses are miles out. It's like there's good and bad kitchen staff and you can be lucky or very unlucky.
