mr a you p ing me off big time...... irish people built these buildings it just so happens that the english were here... did you ever hear of the english men crossing the pond to bulid here i dont think so...... and come to think of it the irish bulit some buildings all over the world ny comes to mind you brat... i just love the old bulidings we have, when the sister went to live in canada all those years ago she said she so missed the old buildings, any time she home she just has to get a fix of trinity, custom house and st stephens green, she even loves the old train stations with all the nice wicklow stone they used back then. so in my eyes irish people who were born in ireland built these lovely buildings. in the future we have all the polish to thank for all the houses and motorways we buliding now. mind you i heard yeasterday that some are on the way back home with load of hard earned cash a bit like us in the 60s.

I am afraid I do not agree Sugarlove. Architects and builders are different things! It would be the same if when you talk about restaurants you had to mention every person who works in the kitchen rather than refering to the head chef.
The Custom House was designed by Gandon, English man from French origin, Dublin castle was built when John Lackland ordered it (Richard I's brother), Trinity College was given the go ahead by an English monarch and several parts of Trinity by several architects depending which area you are talking about. I think St Stephen's Green was only very recent so I am not too sure who it was. They were here for centuries so they are meant to have left something behind...like buildings and the language. Probably you'll get pi-d off with me too now :S but they are right

Quite right tvn.The Irish always go on about how they"built America" or England and in a way they did,but it was merely Irish muscle which did the building, not Irish brains, and as far as the trans continental railways were concerned, the Chinese were better at it than us.

Credit where is due and to who it belongs. You wouldn't hear a Spaniard saying that the Alhambra or the Mosque in Cordoba are Spanish, they are Muslim buildings. They were invaded too by them and not too fond of them either now.
